Maxsim Al-Majd
Maxsim is the son of the CEO and grandson of the founder of Najm al-Majd Shipbuilders, which means he grew up with shuttle gantries as his playground. He joined the Space Pilot Academy the same year I did. His whole life he dreamed of designing and building spaceships, he's a fantastic artist, and has a vivid imaginination.
Maxsim was fascinated by the idea of being a ship builder ever since he was young. His father owned a company that worked in the great shipyards in the upper levels making new components and refurbishing old parts which had been broken or worn out. Maxim would often bring robot that showed promise from his Dad's company's trash heap - saving it from the scrapper. He had developed a knack for fixing these broken systems, taking a circuit board from this one, some actuators from that one, until he had a sizable collection of one-of-a-kind robots. His robots were not very useful at first, but eventually he managed to earn quite a bit of money for himself, buying broken robots from his neighbors and at the local market, fixing them up, and selling them back to people looking for a working robotic assistant at a cheaper price. Not that he needed the money, his dad was probably the richest man in the Combs after the royal family - but I respect his work ethic and I know he'll be a great business leader one day. Amazingly enough, he's also one of the most generous people I know... but that is a story for another day...
Besides working on robots and dreaming about about spacecraft designs; when he was done with his school for the day, he loved to explore the Combs. He could zigzag through the maze of catwalks and tunnels, up and down stairs and ladders as quick as a cat. He had two older brothers, and they and their friends would play the ultimate game of hide-and-seek for days on end. Anywhere you wanted to hide in the Combs was fair, as long as you were not actually concealed in something... and any technology or collaboration with others was allowed when trying to find each other. Maxim could practically disappear in the city at a moment's notice, or recognize someone from the way they walked nearly a kilometer away and fifteen levels below him. When he was hiding, you could count on Maxim to have at least a set of small tools and a few robot pieces with him that he worked on while he waited, always on his guard, scanning around him to avoid getting caught. Funny because space navigation was a different matter entirely. He could find his way anywhere in the combs, but in the open nothing of space he had the hardest time of any of us making it from point A to point B.
