Prince Amir Khalid Al-Sahra’i

Orion's notes: I haven't met the Prince in person, but have collected enough information on his activities through independent first-person witnesses to be certain about his character and the veracity of the surprising and even vilifying information here.

Khalid is was young prince, a favored son of the second brother of the King. He controlled significant political and economic resources in the Combs. His family’s power was tied to their control over the mining industry and solar power production - they wielded significant political influence within the Combs' monarchy.

From what I have heard, most have described the Prince as arrogant and entitled, Khalid grew up in luxury, but was capable of acting with ruthlessness and cunning. He has a sharp eye for business potential and a jealous streak; driving him to attempt to exert control Najm al-Majd, the most influential company on Samum due to its connections to the rest of the Mingusat system. Khalid likely saw Asef, the dilligent and successful CEO of Najm al-Majd as both a threat and a tool. It is clear that attempt to gain control of and manipulate Asef, his company, and even his family to further his own ends, underestimated Asef’s integrity, and the loyalty of his workers and other backers, and the character of his family.

I believe Khalid acted out of a feeling of being overshadowed by his father and his father's two brothers, especially the king. He committed himself with great thoroughness to proving himself and to regaining the old power of the royal family.

To the best of my knowledge, his vilifying actions were committed disregarding his father's and uncles' instruction. His ambition, fueled by a desire to outshine his family and be seen as a powerful leader, blinded him to the needs and struggles of the common people of the Combs and lead to his downfall. By his own confession he saw himself as a potential replacement for the king one day, who he saw as weak.
