The Nüüdelchid (нүүдэлчид) or Nomads were Earth's leftovers. Mongolian nomads, being pushed out from their homes; Siberians, tribal native Americans were also largely represented, and Nepalese people. How this happened was largely a product of a strange happenstance. A grassroots movement among several major indigenous people groups petitioned for resources (along with several wealthy patrons from within their own people) for access to the third starship; and raised enough political support that it was able to requisition the majority of the mission slots for people represented by their coalition. Blended with these was a large portion of people of latin american origin. The ship itself was built by the Pan-Asian alliance.
The mission profile was daring. The Wayfarer, being the last starship to be completed, they were afraid that all the good resources in the distant system would be claimed before they arrived. Because of this, rather than attempt to accelerate directly to the star system and then decelerate upon arrival, the mission plan was to take advantage of a gravity slingshot maneuver utilizing the two sister stars of Mingusat to act as a cosmic brake. The maneuver should have let the ship use most of its fuel for acceleration, allowing it to arrive in the 2190s, concurrent with the first two missions.
In 2103, The Wayfarer embarked on a journey towards a new planetary system, intending to explore the third planet discovered, Sangay. A daring plan was proposed, the larger two stars in the triad as a means of deceleration through a complicated double-reverse-slingshot maneuver. Unfortunately as they were leaving earth's solar system there was a space pirate attack. crucial thrust sequences were missed, leading to a miscalculation which wouldn't become manifest until during the deceleration maneuver.
In 2190, the braking maneuver nearly destroyed the ship, arriving out of phase with the two sister stars. A brave and desperate attempt to avert disaster resulted in complete expenditure of their reaction mass and left the Wayfarer stranded in a dangerous orbit around the main binary pair in the Miniona system. This orbit would bring the ship perilously close to one of the stars after approximately 50 years. With no fuel left, the situation was dire.
At this point the colonists divided into two groups. Some launched tiny ships, barely enough to survive, in order to supervise and build asteroid harvesting robots to gather fuel and supplies for the ship when it returned. These used what little fuel they had to slow their tiny craft and remain in a the tight orbit near the twin stars. It was a desperate rescue mission. As they worked on expanding their resources they began making many technological advancements in space in-situ resource utilization , including developing new fuel sources and the large craft that would later become water ships. Those who remained behind on the main ship worked tirelessly to produce hardy crops that could grow undaunted by the harsh conditions of the depleted starship and feed the growing population on board.
By 2220, when the spacefarers finally managed to break free from the black hole's orbit, resentment had grown towards the other two cultures for their perceived lack of help. They rapidly constructed a space-worthy interstellar ship using the giant refueling ships and headed to their original destination - Sangay. By the time they got there however, it was clear the culture had adapted far better than either of the other civilizations to the art of living in space. While many did go down to Sangay (Particularly it seems those of latin-american heritage who were most industrious in the agricultural bioengineering efforts), many more chose to establish themselves as the Nüüdelchid - the Nomads who lived among the stars. These lived in permanent space colonies, in among the asteroid belts, at small fueling depots around moons and on the moons themselves in self-contained biodomes.
Upon their arrival in the system in 2240, they found themselves in the midst of a brewing conflict. By gathering vast amounts of water in one of the repurposed fuel ships, they averted a war by releasing thousands of tons of water onto both factions, arrayed for battle on the surface of Samūm.
Sangay, known as the Volcano Planet, remained uninhabited and unexplored during the initial exploration of Mingusat's planets. Its volatile nature, eccentric orbit, and continuous volcanic activity deterred original attempts at colonization and settlement. It was closely orbiting a planet known for its dangerous atmosphere of suphuric acid. If it had not been for a crashed probe carrying hundreds of varieties of seeds, the planet would probably have been dismissed as unimportant and too hostile for life; but ironically, it became one of the most important planets in the system.
The planet's eccentric binary orbit with its sister planet, resulted in intense tidal forces within Sangay. This led to a perpetually heated interior and constant volcanic eruptions, making the planet's surface extremely dangerous for humans with toxic atmosphere everywhere but the highest elevations, but very fertile for plant life.
In the year 2240, exploratory missions were launched by the Spacefarers civilization to study Sangay's unique geology and volcanic activity. They sought to understand the planet's potential for resource extraction and its suitability for colonization. The data gathered during these missions revealed the presence of rich, ashy soil and abundant volcanic ash that had already begun to support the growth of many diverse plant species.
During the Earth year 2248, the Spacefarer Civilization sent a few hundred settlers down to the surface of Sangay. The volcanic activity had entered a temporary lull, creating a window for exploration and settlement. The harvester's guild was formed of daring individuals who lived and worked on the surface to collect the bountiful produce, establishing a permanent if tenuous presence on Sangay.
The amazing productivity of Sangay's rich soil was offset by the difficulty of living there. Particularly because the danger from volcanos was ever present; making descent through the ash clouds a hazardous proposition for spaceships with their sensitive instruments. Volcanic danger also threatened the settlements. Eventually they were able to stabilize some of the mountains for permanent residence, they did this by injecting tons of water into pipes in the mountains, releasing the mountain's heat via steam. The steam was used to power massive turbines, which generated electricity for a space-launch system on a scale never achieved before. The Sangay launch system would literally accelerate crates of goods to near-escape velocity and launch them into orbit, powered by minimal thrusters. These crates would then be picked up by passing cargo ships, and distributed all over the Mingusat system.
